Mike is an Associate Professor in the integrated Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Division at Colorado School of Mines. He received a B.A. in Physics from Hastings College, Nebraska, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 1991 as part of the 3-2 program. Mike received a M.S. in Civil-Structural Engineering from California-Irvine in 1993 and a Ph.D. in Civil-Geotechnical Engineering from Northwestern in 1996. He has worked in Civil Engineering consulting in Ireland, Italy, California, Oklahoma and Colorado. Mike's background in physics, structural dynamics and geotechnical engineering (along with his desire to operate heavy equipment!) has fueled his interest in intelligent geosystems and geoconstruction.

Mike immigrated from the U.K. at age 9, and spent his teenage years in the great State of Nebraska. He is married and is the proud papa of Aedan Claire. Mike is a hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding enthusiast, and dreams of taking his Irish band on the road (as soon as he can find three other really good musicians who can cover up for his occasional errors).
