As the engineer nears the end of the EDP, (s)he will pick the final and best design solution. This process is done with lots of review from collegues, their boss to make sure that the engineering company will come up with the very best solution to the problem. As a final step, the engineer will formally present the solution to the client who hired them to design a solution.
The same process should be the final step for the students who are taking on the role of an engineer. Students and their classmates, with their teachers, review and assess the finall possible solutions to decide on the best one. Students should communicate their new understandings through informal and formal presentations. This step requires clear articulation of the investigation and includes the questions, procedures, evidence, a proposed explanation and review of alternative explanations. The students should feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment for the solution that they have developed using the EDP just as an engineer would when they "Choose their Final Design."
